About Me

About Me

I’m first and foremost interested in being a responsible person and doing my part to leave the world in a better place. I’m secondly a partner and family member and thirdly a… I don’t know, person who likes computer science? I’m not sure. I guess the most apt description of my idea of myself would be something in-between a computer scientist and software engineer, but I don’t like titles and I like long winded descriptions of my personal interests less.

My personal ambitions are to make a fundamental contribution to the field of computer science, or otherwise advance the art and make it more accessible and easier for others to do so in the future (maybe develop a new method of teaching, write a book or two on computer science or I guess just be a compassionate, collaborative and helpful colleague). I like knowing a lot but I like helping people more.

If you can’t tell by now I consider my greatest strengths a growth mindset and humility. I have found that carefully nurturing my natural inclination toward curiosity and empathy has been the most constructive course of action in my life. It’s a compelling idea of mine that I can help others see those traits in life and maneuver their way through the experience of life as best equipped as possible.

I think my post https://medium.com/@nwcodex/you-cant-answer-this-math-question-cc438692cd41 (also available https://nwcodex.com/joyofmath) sums of one major aspect of my views on mathematics / computer science well.
